Sug Riley, 1920-2006

My maternal grandmother, Sug Riley went home to be with Jesus yesterday evening. She just celebrated her 86th birthday on May 13. I have many fond memories of Sug, including annual vacations to Myrtle Beach where we'd sit around playing cards. It was only years later that I discovered that she occasionally "bent" the rules to beat us grandkids. If you've wondered where this blog's title, "...and those," comes from, it's from Sug. Instead of refering to my parents as "Jim and Jacque," we were all called, "Jacque and those." Also, she never met a stranger and within minutes of meeting someone would most likely be calling them, "dingbat" or some other term of endearment. I'm sure Jesus has his hands full!

In her latter years, she suffered a stroke in June 2002 and never fully recovered. But all through these last years, Big Daddy was by her side, as he has been for the last 60 years. Many, including the health care workers, have commented recently that their marriage and relationship is/was a true example of two people becoming one flesh. They've been an example to us all. Understandably, Big Daddy has already been missing her. As you pray for all of us, pray for him especially.

Vistitation will be Tuesday, May 30 from 5-8 at Dunbar Funeral Home at 3926 Devine Street in Columbia.

The funeral will be held at 2:00 on Wednesday, May 31 at Park Street Baptist Church with her interment at Elmwood Cemetery.

Any gifts may be directed to Park Street Baptist Church.
